Back to Hogwarts 2026: Everything happening on 1 September
Back to Hogwarts falls on Tuesday 1 September, and this year the annual celebration lands on the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone with an HBO Harry Potter series arriving at Christmas. That combination makes the 2026 Showcase the one to watch.

The day builds towards the annual Back to Hogwarts Showcase, the broadcast where announcements from across the Wizarding World are traditionally made.

Nothing has been confirmed about the contents, but the timing is hard to ignore. The HBO adaptation premieres this December, and fresh footage from that production has been promised.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone twenty-five
The reason for the extra attention is the silver anniversary of the first film, which reached cinemas twenty-five years ago.
To mark it, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is back on the big screen worldwide this week, in many places alongside the rest of the series.
Live celebrations are running in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, China, Australia and Japan. HBO Max hosts its own Platform 9¾ fan experience in London on the day, and Warner Bros. Studio Tour London holds an 11:00am countdown that then repeats every half hour on the platform.
The Universal parks are joining in too, with anniversary experiences at Orlando and Hollywood, after-hours access to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter for selected guests in Japan, and the debut of the Hogwarts Always projection show at Universal Beijing.
One warning worth passing on: there is no official event or countdown at King’s Cross Station this year, and fans are being asked not to travel there.
What last year’s Showcase revealed
If you want a sense of what Tuesday might bring, last year is the best guide available. The 2025 Showcase was where Mark Addy as Hagrid, Daniel Mays as Dobby, Alex Hassell as Lucius Malfoy and the Deshmukh sisters as the Patil twins were first revealed for the Audible full-cast editions.
In other words, this is where casting lands. That matters more than usual right now, with Season 2 due to start filming this autumn and the recasting of Gilderoy Lockhart only settled last week.
It is also the last Back to Hogwarts before the series exists. Every previous one has celebrated a finished story; this one sits directly in front of an adaptation nobody has seen in full, at a moment when the fandom is still arguing over who should play whom.
