NEW Harry, Hermione & Ron Cast Announced for the Upcoming Harry Potter TV Series!

We cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”

Potterheads, grab your wands and hold onto your brooms! HBO has officially announced the new Golden Trio for the highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series. After a global casting call, the lead roles have finally been filled—and it’s big news!

Harry Potter TV Series: The New Cast

  • Dominic McLaughlin will portray Harry Potter, The Boy Who Lived.

  • Arabella Stanton steps into the role of Hermione Granger, the brightest witch of her age.

  • Alastair Stout takes on the character of Ron Weasley, the red-haired hero of the trio.

Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod expressed their excitement:

“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold. We cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”

They also thanked the tens of thousands of children who auditioned for these iconic roles.

Harry, Hermione and Ron

Dominic, Arabella, and Alastair follow in the footsteps of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, who became globally renowned for their roles in the original films. The original cast still fondly recalls their time in the Wizarding World.

Radcliffe stated in 2019: “I’m always genuinely very honored when someone comes up and says, ‘You were a huge part of my childhood.”

Grint shared in 2021: “It was our entire childhood. We grew up on those sets. I mean, it was an immensely strange childhood, but it was one that was really fun.”

And Emma Watson? She admitted in 2023 that she had stepped back from acting because she felt “a bit caged,” but still referred to Harry Potter as “my home, my family, my world,” and called Hermione “my favorite fictional character of all time.”

Stars at Hogwarts

Our new leads will be joined by an impressive Hogwarts cast:

  • John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore

  • Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall

  • Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape

  • Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid

  • Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell

  • Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch

Seven Seasons

The Harry Potter TV series will consist of seven seasons, each based on one of J.K. Rowling’s original books. Director Mark Mylod (The Last of Us) will direct multiple episodes and also serve as executive producer.

The series promises to be a much deeper and more faithful adaptation than the films, exploring every corner of the Wizarding World. According to HBO, it will be “filled with fantastic detail” and is intended for both longtime and new fans.

J.K. Rowling’s Involvement

As J.K. Rowling is involved as an executive producer, some fans have expressed concerns over her previous controversial statements regarding transgender rights. However, HBO head Casey Bloys stated that this has not affected the creative process, casting, or production:

“She’s entitled to her opinion. But it hasn’t impacted the project in any way,” Bloys said during an HBO preview in Los Angeles.

Filming for the new Harry Potter series is set to begin later this year, and the series is scheduled for release in early 2027 on HBO!
